Visit Japan - Tokushima

Tokushima, Japan - Gotta visit em’ all!
Today, I will be introducing the lovely Tokushima Prefecture of the Shikoku region.
From Gifu to Miyazaki, we work our way to the next region that you should visit in Japan!
徳島県 - Tokushima Prefecture
First of all, check out these whirlpools. They’re so mysterious!
Tokushima is known for the 鳴門の渦潮 (naruto no uzushio), or Naruto Whirlpools. This natural phenomenon occurs when two currents collide, creating a mix of different waters. You can witness these amazing whirls of the ocean up close by taking a boat tour. The naruto fish cakes you may find in your ramen gets its name from this.
An 浮世絵 (ukiyoe) by Hiroshige, one of the most influential painters of Japan.
Tokushima is also famous for 阿波踊り (awaodori). Awaodori is a traditional dance that is performed during お盆 (obon) in August. Obon is a time of year when people return to their homes to celebrate and remember family members that had passed away. Every year for a few days, Tokushima City hosts a 祭り (matsuri), or a festival, where they perform the awaodori dance.
Tokushima is also known to be one of the most livable prefectures, with high living standards:
So, with mysterious whirlpools, hoppin’ festivals and dancing, and high living standards, what more could you possibly want from Tokushima?
Well, just as you thought it can’t get any better, it did.
Every region of Japan enjoys a different style of ramen, and Tokushima definitely has a mouthwatering style. The signature ramen has a thick, rich broth topped with pork belly simmered in sweet soy sauce, accompanied with a raw egg yolk.
Just imagine slurping these noodles, tangled with egg yolk and some fresh scallion, on a cold day, with some savory, sweet pork belly to keep you full and satisfied. Some say this is like すき焼き (sukiyaki), one of the best Japanese dishes, and ramen, one of the greatest inventions of humankind, combined. It’s revolutionary.
If these pictures of ramen aren’t convincing enough for you to visit Tokushima, I don’t know what is. This ramen alone is good enough for me to move and live there. Well, I’m gonna make my way over to Tokushima for some ramen now, so I’ll see you all there!
