Sadako VS Kayako

Sadako and her hair is ready to crawl out of your TV once again, but this time to battle the world’s scariest single mother, Kayako.
When I first saw this trailer, I thought it was a joke. And apparently, it was. It started as an April Fool’s joke last year, but this idea of a fight between Sadako and Kayako became viral and soon after, Studio Kadokawa and UBC Universal Japan bought. It has been in production since last year, and is scheduled to be out in theaters June 18th. The Ring (1998) and Ju-on (2002) have been an international phenomenon and a cult classic for horror films. Since then, they’ve had several sequels, including a Hollywood remake, and this will be both franchise’s 12th movie.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. A lot of their sequels haven’t been getting particularly good reviews, and this whole concept to fuse the two together seemed to me pretty silly and overplayed. But that was until I realized that people are actually pumped for this once in an eternity battle to happen; they’re calling sides and cheering on their favorite demon, as you can see through Sadako’s twitter, and Kayako’s instagram.

From Sadako’s twitter, it seems like she’s just an everyday, normal, possessed girl, tweeting about how excited she is about the movie, enjoying her life for once. On Kayako’s instagram, she posts pictures of her watering the plants, or her holding groceries with her son, showing the delicate, motherly side of her. They both have lots of followers and have been getting lots of support from people around the world, despite their unappealing appearance. They’ve even thrown opening pitches for the Nippon-Ham Fighters, surely increasing their fancbase:

It’s going to be interesting to see how these two, unexpectedly social media active figures will turn out in the movie. Apart from their sorta funny and lovable public image, and remembering that this is supposed to be a horror movie, will they be able to make us shriek in theaters? And lastly, will you be Team Sadako or Team Kayako?
