Another Suspense About Revenge

evenge is such a popular topic for Asian dramas. I've been watching Chinese/HK dramas ever since I was a child, and I would say revenge is the theme about 95% of the time. And this is what Ouroboros is about as well. It's a deep, deep revenge.

Great Cast of Actors/Actresses

The main reason I watched this drama is because I like all of the actors and actresses: Ikuta Toma, Oguri Shun, Ueno Juri. Even the supporting staff are all pretty well known.

Although I don't expect any oscar nominations out of this cast, I can expect a strong performance and that is what was delivered.

Ikuo and Tatsuya romanticize their childhood.

The Plot

Two kids from an orphan house have very fond memories living with their favorite teacher when she is abruptly taken away from them. Ikuo and Tatsuya swear to take revenge on their teacher when they get older.

You would think revenge wouldn't be too tough since Ikuo rises up to become a detective and Tatsuya rises up to become a prominent Yakuza leader. But of course, it's never that simple! They just happen to be up against a powerful conspiracy lead by very dangerous men.

Full of plot twists and turns, things will begin to unravel in this 10 episode series!

Concluding Thoughts

Having watched all the higher rated j-dramas for this season, I'd have to say this drama definitely stands out. The downside is that after dramas like Mozu and Hanzawa Naoki from the previous years, I was kind of hoping for more. Nevertheless, this was a really enjoyable drama. I really like chemistry between Ikuo and Hibino Mizuki, who build a strong relationship as detective partners / friends / romantic lovers.

Tatsuya's character, being in the mafia, is much darker. Tatsuya and Ikuo have the same objective, revenge, and that makes both of them very dark. You get the sense that Tatsuya is dark by nature, whereas Ikuo is dark because of the events of what happened.

Ikuo and Hibino confide in each other and trust each other a lot.
